You Are Here: Honoring The Lenape People

May was Lower East Side History Month, where my AOTA art studio is located. I want to share the installation I've been developing on site that talks about the history of the East Village. By scanning a QR code on the image, the viewer is guided to a video clip with some historic information on the site. Manahatta was the first in the series.
New York has always been synonymous with innovation and ingenuity. From its beginnings as a modern city to the present, this is evident in its architecture. But "Lenapehoking" (the land of the Lenape tribe) literally laid a blueprint for what would become urban living. With "Manahatta, (meaning hilly island) at its center, the first New Yorkers' contributions, often overlooked in mainstream history, played a crucial role in shaping city life.
