In 2020 Nicaragua’s National Police reported that 76% of violent crimes against women were committed in the victims’ homes. The femicide crisis also exposes widespread impunity and institutionalized misogyny. Out of 33 countries in Latin America, only 18 have passed or amended specialized femicide laws to sanction the crime.
