About the Work: Making Art in Isolation, Asclepius Revival

Updated: May 25

I've been keeping busy making art, and want to share a painting reflecting on the times. This piece came about after seeing a sick neighbor being taken in an ambulance by paramedics. It's a remix on the iconic image "The Rod of Asclepius", a deity associated with healing and medicinal arts in Greek mythology. It has continued to be used till this day as a symbol of medicine and healthcare workers, My depiction is a tribute to all those selflessly caring for those struck by the Coronavirus. As the world came to halt and the demigods of celebrity, sports, music and entertainment are forced into quarantine with the rest of us, the heralds of Asclepius continue to work and do everything in their power to save lives.

The title will be "Asclepius Revival" and the piece signifies that as long as we have healers like the healthcare workers to put their lives on the line for us, we will always have hope. They are the true rockstars. They always were, and should never forget their courage and sacrifice. I also included the Native American medicine wheel to represent self-care and balancing our physical, spiritual, psychological and emotional estates in order to stay healthy.
