FdlM @ VOLTA NYC 2022: CAMP Gallery Presents Vibrant Cohort of International Artists

Volta Art Fair New York 2022 Returns to New Chelsea Location MAY 18 – 12, 2022

New York -- VOLTA Art Fair returns to New York coinciding with the Frieze Art Fair from May 18 to 22 at 548 West 22nd Street. Located a few blocks down from The Shed, VOLTA’s new location at the former Dia building and Hauser & Wirth gallery space in Chelsea, is a 10-minute walking distance from Frieze New York.

VOLTA’s cornerstones are: Discover. Connect. Collect. The fair was established with the intention of providing a foundational platform for dynamic younger and middle-market galleries seeking participation in the art world’s major cities. VOLTA New York presents a vibrant cohort of 49 national and international galleries, providing its roster of exhibitors with a platform to present cutting-edge presentations in art market capitals.

Joining this year's lineup of exhibitors is Westport/Miami's The Contemporary Art Modern Project. The visual goal of the CAMP booth is to contrast the stark portraiture of Ghanian artist Idris Habib, to the bright and vibrant collages of Brazilian artist Silvana Soriano, the bursting colors of Nicaraguan painter Franck de las Mercedes tied together by the geometric and colorful textile works of Uruguayan Artist Evelyn Politzer.

Three of the artists use fabric in their works; Habib paints on African fabrics; Soriano, in her collage works both paints and uses fabric to dress her characters, and Politzer painstakingly weaves color throughout her textile works creating beautiful objects and installations. de las Mercedes creates blooming bouquets against a stark black background focusing on the colors used and the abundance of a spectacular void to draw attention to the possibility of possibility in an urban life. The booth looks at these intriguing uses of textile and color and explores the different cultures and locations of the artists arguing both the richness of the textile arts and the use of color, as artists continually seek to create that unique artistic voice and practice. Key to the booth and its goal is also an exploration of color and how it is used in the works, not only for the visual effect but also as a marker of cultural identity. ---Melanie Prapopoulos
