Franck de Las Mercedes to be Honored at 5th Annual Hearing Our Voices Awards in NYC
Voices UnBroken Recognizes those who Make the World a Better Place
WHAT: On November 17, 2011, Voices UnBroken will host their 5th annual Hearing Our Voices Awards Reception in NYC. Established in 2007, the award recognizes people who use their voices to make the world a better place and work to make the community's voices heard. Among this year's honorees is internationally recognized artist Franck de Las Mercedes who will be honored for his work with The Priority Boxes Art Project.
The "Priority Boxes" project is a public art series that seeks to initiate dialogue on peace, challenge people to reconsider their ability to influence change and question the fragility, value and priority given to those concepts. Each box, sent by mail to anyone who requests one, is both a canvas for a unique abstract painting and a platform for communication through art. A mixture of art and activism, the boxes are sent free to convey that something of such priority as peace should not have a price and that art can be both inclusive and accessible to all.
